Transformation Together
The Carr Center is a collaboration of multiple entities across non-profits, governments, and individuals. This vision would not be possible without the superb network of collaborators, donors, and leaders making it possible.

Greenwood Forest Baptist Church and Children’s Center
Land, Community Organizing, and Preschool
GFBC has been in Cary for more than 60 years and brings two components to this project: the project land and its children’s center. The Greenwood Forest Children’s Center was founded as one of the first racially-integrated kindergarten’s in Cary and it has remained a cherished secular educational and childcare center ever since. In the new facilities at the Carr Center, the Greenwood Forest Children’s Center will expand its offerings to more hours and more families, including those living in the homes on-site.

The Carying Place
Empowering Homeless Working Families with Children
For more than 30 years, The Carying Place (TCP) has been a pillar of support for homeless, working families with children in Wake County. Financial literacy is the hallmark of our program, as we believe taking the time to teach and ensure accountability is life-changing. By combining short-term housing with a comprehensive support system, we empower families to secure stable housing and lay the groundwork for sustained self-sufficiency, benefiting generations to come. The Carr Center will house TCP’s offices and 11 new two-bedroom apartments for homeless working families. With an 80% success rate for families obtaining stable housing, TCP has a proven track record of success.

DHIC
Affordable Housing Developer
Since 1974, DHIC has connected people with safe, affordable, and desirable homes in central North Carolina. DHIC has strengthened communities by offering families and seniors with limited incomes the opportunity for high quality housing and amenities combined with supportive services. The Carr Center will add more than 50 units to DHIC’s long list of affordable housing developments. DHIC continues to reinvest in its portfolio and extend affordability restrictions on its properties.

The YMCA of the Triangle
Program Partner
The Taylor Family YMCA will be a critical program partner in bringing the Y’s offerings to the neighborhood.

Wake County, North Carolina
Community Capital Grant Funder
Wake County provided a generous Community Capital Grant to help fund the early childhood education component of the Carr Center.

Town of Cary, North Carolina
Pre-Development Funder, Co-Applicant on Rezoning
The Town of Cary has been an early supporter of this development and purchased adjacent land to expand affordable housing options in the community.
