The Carr Center received unanimous and enthusiastic approval from the Cary Town Council on April 24, 2025! We’re excited to clear this important hurdle that has been many years in the making. After a marathon Town Council meeting covering many rezoning requests, when it came time to discuss the Carr Center, council members demonstrated notable enthusiasm and excitement.

Mayor Harold Weinbrecht said that the development would “change lives” and that it was one of the “most impressive” projects he had seen come before the council (and the council has seen many under his leadership!). Council member Sarika Bansal said that the Carr Center reflected the “spirit of Cary” and council member Carissa Kohn-Johnson called it “majestic” and urged people to get involved and contribute funds to this community project. Council member Lori Bush highlighted the remarkable partnership the Carr Center represents, showing that “we can do more together.”

More than 130 people from various congregations, organizations, and neighborhoods showed up to support the Carr Center development, demonstrating its strong grassroots support. It was one of the most crowded town council meetings many had observed. Organizations like ONE Wake and Habitat for Humanity of Wake County rallied their membership and partner organizations to be present. Multiple representatives of different constituencies in Cary gave testimonies of support during the Public Speakers Out portion of the meeting.

You can read coverage of Cary’s enthusiastic approval of the project at INDY Week and in the News & Observer.

Don’t forget to join us for the May 18 Launch Party for the Carr Center on the campus of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church (110 SE Maynard Road Cary, NC 27511).
